Is it really important to use a licensed plumber or HVAC technician?

You bet it is! Licensing isn’t simply intended to prevent non-licensed people from making money on plumbing and HVAC work. It’s designed to keep incompetent, uninsured people from endangering the health of your family, damage to your home and exposing you to liability risks.

Licensing guarantees that anyone wishing to do plumbing or HVAC work is qualified. They have demonstrated their ability by passing strict laws in Idaho that requires plumbers and HVAC technicians to attend 4 years of technical training. Locals graduate from Boise State University.  During this time they must log 8,000 hours in the field under supervision, pass a written exam and a hands on practical.  The state of Idaho has set forth certain standards that guarantees a “licensed” plumber and HVAC tech carries full responsibility for the work he performs. 

These regulations are in effect to protect us from well-meaning “handymen” who may not have enough knowledge to perform installations and repairs in a safe manner.
