Prevent Clogs Before They Occur!

More than the eye can see:  Drains are an important part of your home’s complex plumbing system. Most drains lead to a trap that keeps harmful sewer gases from entering your home. These pipes, in turn, lead to branch drains, which connect the main drain into a sewer or septic system. A stopped drain isn’t just an inconvenience; can sometimes be an emergency. While it’s always best to prevent clogs before they happen, clogged drains can and do occur – often at the most inopportune moments. You can count on the professionals at Wickstrom to keep your drains running clean and clear.

Prevent Clogs Before They Occur!

Pipes most often clog from a buildup of grease, food, hair and soap. Here are a few simple things you can do to prevent drains from clogging in the first place:

Kitchen Sink

  • Don’t empty grease into the sink, it collects along the sides of the pipe and the food can stick to the pipes, forming a clog. Pour grease into cans and throw them in the garbage.
  • When using the food disposal, run lots of cold water to wash food particles down the pipe.  Using too little water can contribute to the particles collecting along the sides of the pipe.
  • Don’t empty coffee grounds in the sink.

Bathroom

  • Clean the pop-up stoppers in sinks frequently. Hair often collects here and causes clogs.
  • Don’t flush heavy paper products down the drain. Excess paper can clog the toilet and/or the whole sewer system.
