Heating System Replacement

When it’s time to replace your current heating system, you’ll have a lot of decisions to make. There are quite a few good products out there these days, and you’ll have to determine whether it’s better to stick with the type of system you have already or switch to something a little different. Wickstrom Plumbing, Heating & Cooling can help you select the heating system that best suits your Boise area home.

Your options in this regard will vary depending on where you live, but don’t forget that you do still have options. And it’s important to understand the pros and cons of each type of heating system before you make the commitment to have one installed.

Professional Advice

We know this process can be a bit overwhelming. Of course you want to wind up with the best possible system for your home, but you also don’t want to spend hours trying to understand the technical information about each type of system to see how they measure up to each other.

And that’s why our expert technicians are happy to sit down with you to help you make the best possible decision for you and your family. We can walk you through the process of selecting the best replacement heating system by taking into account the size and dimensions of your home and your particular heating needs.

We’ll also keep you informed every step of the way to make sure that the replacement process goes as smoothly as possible. You’ll know what to expect and we’ll work with your schedule as much as possible so that your heating replacement doesn’t interfere too much with the rest of your life.

Heater Efficiency Ratings

One of the things you’ll notice early on when you go to select a new heating system is that they all come with an efficiency, or AFUE rating. All of the heating systems currently sold have at least an 80% AFUE rating and some can get as high as 95 or 97%.

Of course, it seems to make sense that you would want the most energy efficient furnace you can get, but there are actually a couple of other factors to take into account as well. To begin with, heating systems with a 90+% AFUE rating typically cost significantly more than those rated around 80%.

While you will certainly save money on your monthly heating bills with the higher efficiency furnace, the amount that you save won’t offset the higher cost of the more efficient furnace unless you use it a lot. The fact is that 80% is still very efficient, so if you live in a relatively temperate climate, you won’t save enough monthly to warrant the extra initial expense of the higher efficiency system.

When to Replace Your Heating System

It’s also important to know when to replace your heating system. Of course, if your current system breaks down completely, you’ll really have no choice. But there are actually quite a few other scenarios in which investing in a replacement makes the most sense.

For instance, if you’ve had to repair your heating system regularly over the last few years, then it may be worth replacing it rather than continuing to pay for what are likely to be increasingly costly repairs. It’s likely that you’re going to have to get a new one soon anyway, so why pay to fix a system that’s just going out the door in a year or so anyway. Plus, you never know when it may give out on you completely, leaving you with no heat in the middle of winter.

And even if your current system is working just fine, it can make sense to replace it anyway. Because the newer heating systems that are available now are so much more energy efficient than those installed even 10 years ago, you’ll be able to cut down on your monthly heating bills significantly with a newer model. That savings is enough to make investing in a new system worth it.
